Daily Bites: Milk Produced with Artificial Hormones

Daily bites:  by Jackie
Information provided by Liz Vaccariello, Editor-in-Chief, PREVENTION

Milk Produced with Artificial Hormones
The expert: Rick North, project director of the Campaign for Safe Food at the Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility and former CEO of the Oregon division of the American Cancer Society
The problem: Milk producers treat their dairy cattle with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST, as it is also known) to boost milk production. But rBGH also increases udder infections and even pus in the milk. It also leads to higher levels of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor in milk. In people, high levels of IGF-1 may contribute to breast, prostate, and colon cancers. "When the government approved rBGH, it was thought that IGF-1 from milk would be broken down in the human digestive tract," says North. As it turns out, the casein in milk protects most of it, according to several independent studies. "There's not 100% proof that this is increasing cancer in humans," admits North. "However, it's banned in most industrialized countries."
The solution: Check labels for rBGH-free, rBST-free, produced without artificial hormones, or organic milk. These phrases indicate rBGH-free products.

The Strangest Secret - Advantedge Article By Earl Nightingale

I am so excited to share with you an incredible article, tool and inspiration for anybody to motivate themselves to make changes in there lives. I have been studying many books, articles, studies, etc. for my own personal development and I am eager to share with you what I have learned along the way.

Nutrition for the mind and body
I have focused on Nutrition for our bodies minds and spirit. Nutrition not just in the sense of food, vitamins and minerals but nutrition for the mind and spirit. I not only want to inspire myself to set and reach new goals and places in my life both spiritually and financially but also be able to help others do the same. My free on-line nutrition seminar is a great place to start www.livewellintl.com/jackiebennett I have learned quite a bit over the last two to three years. Of course, as with everything in life not everything you read is worthy of keeping in our minds. In fact you really do need to be careful what you put into your mind and what you surround yourself with because that is exactly what is going to lead your mind, body, spirit and your future. This article puts a lot of what I have learned from many sources into one beautifully written piece of work. You see there really isn't any big secret.

Complacency
One thing I have learned about myself is that over the years I became complacent. Please, do not allow yourself to become complacent and not continue to seek wisdom and feed your brain. In doing so, like myself and 95% of Americans we fall into the trap of conformity. We become like cattle and we are controlled by the environment around us including but not limited to TV, Marketing, your neighbors, corporations, classmates, friends and even your spouse. I know because just like most of you I am one of them. I will touch a little more on that subject in future blogs.

The Book
As you read this article I believe it is important to note that like Earl states most of this information is also available in the oldest book around, the one and only Holy Bible. In my next blog post I will be sharing with you references from other personal development books and articles along with more incredible information and for some points I will reference where they are in the Bible. I have found a common link in allot of the personal development books, tapes, and even some articles from what most of us see as successful people. Some call it a spiritual connection, some call it finding there soul, some call it divine intervention or power and some state God's Laws of Success. Now, I am by no means a Bible expert, but I am reading and learning everyday what God wants for us and the Bible clearly is our map to a fulfilled, happy life.

Goals, Dreams, Vision
Till next time enjoy this article and take the time to truly digest what is said and take a look at your life, your goals and your dreams. Do you have any goals, dreams or visions? If not, where are you going?

Here's to your success and God Bless.

Jackie Bennett

Nutritional Supplement Product Quality Checklist

Here’s a quick Product Quality Checklist published by Lyle MacWilliam’s Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements:
  1. Is the product delivered in a single dose? (A once-a-day tablet simply cannot provide the levels of potency needed for optimal nutrition without being too large to swallow.)
  2. Are the potency levels of the ingredients high enough to provide optimal daily nutritional intake without compromising safety?
  3. Are the ingredients provided in their most bioavailable form? (Mineral salts are not as well absorbed as chelated minerals or minerals bound to organic carrier.)
  4. Is the safety profile of each ingredient thoroughly researched and evaluated?
  5. Does the company Meet United States and Canadian pharmaceutical guidelines – not food-grade guidelines – for Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs)
  6. Is the product formulated to meet pharmaceutical standards for dull disintegration and dissolution?
  7. Is the product potency guaranteed for a specified shelf life?
  8. Is the product independently tested and guaranteed for potency and safety?
  9. Is the product manufactured in-house? (or is it contracted out to the lowest bidder?)
  10. Is the product free of ingredients that may have cumulative toxicities (pre-formed vitamin A and iron)?
If the product meets all of these criteria, you know that you have a nutritional supplement of exceptional quality.  If it doesn’t, keep looking.
In reality, it is just not feasible for the consumer to consider all these points about a product simply by scanning the label.  Many nutritional manufacturers don’t make such detailed information easily available – and that’s precisely the reason for this comparative guide.
Below is some of what I take on a daily basis and is the minimum recommendation you should take to protect your health from oxidative stress and provide optimal cellular nutrition?
1.        USANA Essentials or Health Pack
2.        BiOmega (Fish Oil, Omega 3 fatty acids)
3.        Proflavanol C (Mega Antioxidants)
However, if you are taking cholesterol, blood pressure medications or certain anti-depressants you will need to add CoQuinone 30.  These medications block your body’s ability to produce Coenzyme Q10 which is essential to energy production in the cell.
I hope this information was helpful and I can’t express it enough that as a consumer you need to do your homework.  Don’t listen to the hype or fancy marketing.  Ask the important questions above, check the product ratings and only then should you give them a try.
God Bless
